…Or it’s perfect round the the waist but it’s too tight on the shoulders, or it’s fine for your bust but too small at the hips! That’s when it’s time to get the sewing machine out!

There’s a myth that sewing your only clothes is expensive; it only is if you want it to be. There are no rules to say you must buy the most expensive fabric, there’s so many thrifty places to pick up unusual patterns and prints, including markets and second-hand stores! Also, how many times have you bought something because it was cheap? And not because it was well-made or built to last? This is what we now call ‘Fast Fashion’. When sewing your own clothes, you are investing time in creating something that fits you perfectly and something that will be a favourite in your wardrobe for years to come.

Sewing gives you an opportunity to escape from the chores of everyday life and focus on creating something new and more importantly something just for you! Like most hobbies Sewing is a labour of love and opportunity to express your creativity. Once you have mastered the art of garment sewing, you will get faster and no doubt more experimental with your choice of sewing patterns.
When you get that first compliment of ‘Wow, where did you get your dress?’ and you can say, ‘I made it myself’, you will be eager to start your next sewing project!
