Increasing the Back Width from Across the Armholes – Option 3C

We saw how to fix tight backs and low back necklines with one technique. Now we discuss a great correction for most men (as they complain about this issue regularly) or if you have a muscular body and you have extra muscle mass in your shoulder blades and chest. It’s great for swimmers or athletic builds, too.

1. If you feel like the lower across back area AND chest is tight, Cut your pattern open vertically in the center back area.
2. Tape and measure the amount you’ve opened.
3. Come back to your pattern and slash it as shown, adding half of the amount to your pattern.
4. Smooth out the side seam and shoulder seam.

This is a great solution when you need more movement to the lower across-back and chest area.

You’ll notice that with this correction, our side seams are no longer mirrored. It breaks that rule, but it’s ok to break the rules for custom-fit clothing.
